NZ 100% Nubuck Leather

In June 2015, our leather artisan, Fiona Ritchie, experimented with Nubuck Leather and laser engraving for a contemporary pilot logbook cover. The distinctive leather logbook cover was greatly admired and today is Sparrowhawk leather’s most popular logbook cover.

This NZ Tannery produced, full grain aniline dyed leather, is lightly buffed on the top grain surface. This sometimes leaves light scars and hide characteristics while creating a soft velvety feel nap. The light Mocha colour is the perfect background for your distinctive laser engraving

Our Founder

Fiona Ritchie Leather Artisan & Pilots Wife

Sparrowhawk Leather took flight in 2014 when I made my first Pilot Logbook cover for my Airline pilot husband, Nick. Unable to find a robust, handmade leather cover like the one he’d purchased 30 years earlier, Nick asked that I make covers to fit his current and older logbook.

Since then, I have made nearly 1000 personalised leather logbook covers for pilots in New Zealand, Australia, US, UK and Hong Kong. As Sparrowhawk Leather became known, pilots requested more personalisation and custom made options, as well as Pilot Licence wallets and Men’s wallets. Today Sparrowhawk Leather makes the widest range of Pilot Logbook Covers available in the world, all from my Farm Workshop in Hunua, New Zealand.

Pilot logbook cover - beautiful product and wonderful communication

Our son loves the customised pilot logbook cover. Fiona went above and beyond to complete the order in a compressed timeframe so that it would arrive in time for Christmas. Her friendly communication, the wonderful craftsmanship
and the personalised notes re caring for the leather were an excellent touch and much appreciated. Thank you!

Our young pilot is really happy with his new log book cover; perfect engraving and stitching, tough yet soft and pliable leather. Super friendly service too.

Awesome cover

No doubt 5/5 star! Great product and awesome and friendly contact with Fiona. No problems at all! Can highly recommend! This is already my second product I bought from Fiona and all still looking (and working) mighty fine. Even my NZ license wallet I bought a few years ago!
