Fiona's unique hand rubbed dyeing technique enhances the natural grain characteristics your cover's vegetable tanned russet leather. By individually hand embossing each initial and the numerals of your special date, then hand stitching your book cover, the result is an authentically crafted leather anniversary gift that's irreplaceable.
Sparrowhawk's leather bookcovers are made to measure, so they fit and protect your hardcover Journal or Book, and may be swapped over to your replacement Journal or Book of the same size, as required. You can:

Each Sparrowhawk Leather piece is made to order by skilled Leather Artisan, Fiona Ritchie.
Fiona uses time honoured leathercraft techniques, including hand embossing and hand dyeing, allowing Sparrowhawk customers specify the colour and personalization of their piece.
By carefully selecting the leather to cut from the hide, and hand rubbing their dye colour to enhance its individual grain, Fiona crafts a one-off piece, with a unique finish, that is exclusively theirs.
Fiona's leather knowledge, designs and craftsmanship ensures each customer's Sparrowhawk leather piece is fit for purpose, beautiful and stands the test of time.

It takes knowledge, practiced techniques, and the best materials to achieve true leather craftsmanship. From 2014, when I made my first Pilot Logbook Cover following 3 days private tuition at a working tannery in Sydney, True Leather Craftsmanship has been my gold standard for Sparrowhawk.
Since then, I have made close to 2500 leather pieces from my Hunua Farm workshop. These include wallets, journal covers and documents holders. Each one is custom made, and personalised for its owner. Sparrowhawk Leather’s renowned Pilot Logbook covers are trusted and treasured by hundreds of pilots across NZ and Australia.
